1. What have you accomplished since your last report? (For the first report, you will briefly describe your activities for the previous week).
I've created a couple of the web pages for the project for this class, namely the Analysis page and gotten started on the Design page. I have spent alot of time reviewing for the comprehensive exam, to the extent this reflection is late. The more I reviewed, the more concerned I became with the details (overachieving behavior, big time) It was actually a really good exercise because there were many details that I had forgotten (Bloom's taxonomy and Keller's ARCS learning concepts.) As I reviewed, I looked back on the different training's I've developed, and the ones I need to develop. I think I need to study for the comprehensive exam at least once a year to be sure I remember the different learning theories, applications, and styles. It has also brought up another topic of staying current with learning theory. In reviewing for the research topic on the exam, I stumbled across a couple of studies I had forgotten I'd even found. One of them had to do with engagement theory, which follows along on the concept of project based learning. Since I don't have the opportunity to work directly with curriculum development in schools, I haven't stayed as current on project based learning as I would have liked to.
2. What are your short-term objectives and plans for achieving those objectives for the next two weeks?
Get caught up. Figure out to stay more current in the field of Educational Technology. Find out if there is a group I can actively participate in that would help me stay current. I think I belong to one but I'll have to go find the name and look into their meeting times to find out when and where they meet.
It's our spring break this week and I hope to get all the final projects, quizzes, and discussions done so I'm not stressed the rest of April. The district I work in is rolling out two new software packages, Skyward Student Management system and Peoplesoft (for district financial and HR purposes) I am HEAVILY involved in trying to coordinate, plan and implement all the training that will need to take place between now and the rollout of the last piece which is Sept. 1 2004.
3. What have you learned since you submitted your previous synopsis?
I've learned (or tried) to remember who, what, when and where developed all the research material and methods associated with learning in general. Cognitive psychology was one of the first courses that I took in this program and I've forgotten more than I care to admit about theory and method. It's really sad to think how narrow minded we can become because of the focus of our world.
I've learned how to use a new program called Camtasia. It lets you record screen activity, along with voice, callouts and/or bullets to do online demonstrations in real time. Much more interesting and exciting that step by step instructions. It's a tool that at work we hope to restructure our help system online.
