Reflection #3

1.     What have you accomplished since your last report? (For the first report, you will briefly describe your activities for the previous week).

Read some more of the instructional design material we created during that class. Mainly, at the analysis phase and reviewing the steps of analyzing the learning context to be accomplished. Evaluating what the need is for the learners to reach the goals or objectives defined or perceived. Also, evaluating what the environment will be where the learning with take place. This is a step I tend to forget and shouldn't. My district is diverse enough that designing a lesson for 3rd grade whatever may not be successful at each of the 20 elementary campuses in the district because of diversity, teacher/student ratio, teacher capability or willingness to deviate to different types of lessons, or lack of materials. I've been spoiled developing the training I do because I know the equity across the departments and that they all have the same basic hardware standard and have the same software. The biggest consideration is their entry level ability and their learning style. In most cases, instructor led is most successful, for several reasons....they feel a sense of worth, personalized attention, and validation they need training. Online or text based materials are difficult for them to use because of the easy access the people they support have to them, they don't have the ability to focus on the task of learning.

2.     What are your short-term objectives and plans for achieving those objectives for the next two weeks? I have worked through the analysis phase of my proposal and am now reviewing steps to working on the design. I already have in my mind what I think would be the appropriate method of instruction but need to review and apply those design steps we learned during class.

3.     What have you learned since you submitted your previous synopsis?

Since my second analysis, I have learned some of the other methods of analysis. Specifically, learning about the characteristics and prior knowledge that learners have before beginning the analysis was a step I had forgotten to include in my thought process. I've also learned I need to focus this thought concept on a broader audience than just the department personnel I normally deal with. It will help my comprehensive exam tremendously if I can remember that.

I have also begun to learn the new Dreamweaver MX 2004 and am trying to rebuild my web pages in it. It will also become one of the software packages that I will eventually develop training for. As I am learning it, I am trying to apply the ADDIE model and think through what it is I will need to analyze about the webmasters when I develop that training. Keeping in mind their similarities and differences as far as information processing and conditions of learning will be critical since many of the webmasters have only used Frontpage and will be resistent to change.
