GOAL:  Use graphics software to create buttons and banners for web pages.

Department webmasters will be able to traverse graphics software application and create buttons and banners for use on webpages. Webmasters will attend instructor-led or online training sessions on use of Paint Shop Pro graphics software. Webmasters will have software installed on computers. Webmasters will create two buttons during instruction for use in rollover effect buttons on a web page.

Background:  Department webmasters in the Birdville ISD have expressed an interest in creating their own buttons and banners on their web pages. It will be assumed webmasters are familiar with navigating in a Windows 2000 operating environment and using Internet Explorer 6.0 as the web interface. Webmasters are familiar with instructor led training, online training or self-paced document based training and will request attendance in the class type via email. Prior to being accepted into the class, students will complete a survey included in the email form responding to their interest in the graphics class. The survey will access the students perceived level of comprehension in graphics.

Available Technology: Departments webmasters have the district standard Windows 2000 Operating System and Microsoft FrontPage installed on their desktop computers. Webmasters have JASC Paint Shop Pro 8.0 installed on their computers to use for graphics manipulation and creation in connection with their web page development. Instructor led training will follow the documentation created for web based and self paced training.

Survey description: Student level of understanding in regard to vocabulary will be determined. Example: file type (jpg or gif), measurement (pixel or inches), drop shadow, beveled edge, selection tool, foreground and background, transparency, opacity, and texture.

The overall learning goal is intellectual with the secondary objective being psychomotor. Learners will be required to use evaluation and logic skills to determine which design to create, tools needed and colors for appropriate visual layout.  Psychomotor skills will be used to manipulate the mouse, keyboard and shortcut key to access tools, create drawings, shapes and manipulate layout of objects.
